Corey McDonald
Physiotherapist
Before he was a physio, Corey was an exercise scientist, strength and conditioning coach and personal trainer. Over 16 years he has trained, rehabbed and programmed for people of all ages and abilities, from complex injury and health cases to professional athletes. Physiotherapy added the clinical side to what he already knew about building high-performing humans, and that mix shapes how he works today. Having grown up competing at state and national level in rugby league, surf lifesaving, track and field and swimming, he knows how frustrating it is to be sidelined. His work across gyms, sports teams and a longevity medicine practice has taught him that recovery depends as much on sleep, nutrition, stress and confidence as on the injury itself. He treats rehab like good training: work out what’s really going on, load the body progressively, and make sure people understand the plan well enough to back themselves.
Expertise & Special Interests
Corey’s main interests are strength-based rehab, performance testing and return to sport. Early on in his career he noticed that the people who truly turned things around weren’t relying on passive treatment alone. They trained consistently, built capacity and took ownership of their health outside the clinic. That idea drives everything he does. He combines thorough physiotherapy assessment with strength and conditioning principles, using objective testing at every stage to track progress, set clear targets and decide when someone is genuinely ready for the next step. Whether the goal is a grand final, a PB or staying active well into later life, he builds the plan to get people back stronger, more resilient and more confident than before.

Sports & Teams
Corey is Head Physiotherapist for the Southport Sharks VFL team. Before joining HPL he spent over six years as a physio and S&C coach at Ultimate Sports Performance, working with athletes aged 11 to 48 from club to national level. His athletes have included AFL, rugby league and union, surf lifesaving, track and field, volleyball, tennis and surfing, plus just about every weekend sport in between.
Fun Fact
During his studies, Corey spent two years living in Germany at the German Sports University in Cologne, gallivanting across nearly 40 countries in Europe and North Africa along the way. These days he plays padel three or four times a week, and the rest of his spare time goes to the gym, the surf and his camera, shooting ocean photography and video. He lives with his partner and their two Ragdoll cats, and hopes to add a couple of dogs to the mix soon. He’ll back any Queensland team in any code, but his heart belongs to the Broncos. Come State of Origin, expect the clinic to be painted maroon.
